Africa Boxing 16 sees two title fights and the return of Old Bones

The sixteenth instalment of the ESPN Africa Boxing series will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday April 21, and two title fights will feature at this month’s event, as well as the comeback of prodigy Mzuvukile Magwaca.

Cowin Ray (champion) will take on Andile Mntungwa (challenger) in the SA Super Middleweight Title fight, while Bangile Nyangani (champion) and Loyiso Ngantweni (challenger) will compete for the SA Mini Flyweight Title.

Magwaca will make his return to the ring in an undercard fight. The boxer who is nicknamed “Old Bones” was the IBF Inter-Continental Bantamweight Champion at the highpoint in his career, when he was shot in a robbery in his home in 2018.

Having started boxing as a child, he made his professional debut in 2009 and racked up a record of 23 fights, 20 wins, no losses and 3 draws. After many years, much rehabilitation, therapy, training, and support from the Cape Town boxing community, Magwaca now plans to make a comeback.

The action starts at 19:00 (CAT) on ESPN (DStv 218, Starsat 248), SABC Sport and selected international broadcasters including ESPN across Latin America, as well as a highlights package in TKO (SABC 2, Fridays at 21:30).
