Andy Reid flatly quashed retirement rumors during his victorious Super Bowl LVIII press conference on Monday morning in Las Vegas.
The three-time Super Bowl champion confirmed that he intends to return to coach the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2024 season. The 65-year-old apparently hasn’t seriously considered retirement.
“I haven’t even thought about [retirement],” Reid said, via ESPN’s Jeff Darlington. “People keep asking me. I haven’t really gone there. I haven’t really thought about it.”
Reid will be the oldest active NFL coach heading into next season following the departure of Bill Belichick (71) and Pete Carroll (72). Reid turns 66 in March.
“I’m the old guy now,” Reid said Monday.
Reid’s confirmation backs up what Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said after the win on Sunday, when he predicted the coach would remain with the team next season.
The 2024 season will mark Reid’s 12th with the Chiefs. He signed a six-year extension ahead of the 2020 season. In the past five seasons, Reid has guided the Chiefs to four Super Bowl appearances.
The Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers, 25–22 in overtime, in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday.
