Aston Villa extend deal with Unai Emery to 2029

Unai Emery has signed a five-year contract extension which will keep him at Aston Villa until 2029, the club confirmed on Monday.

Under Emery’s leadership, Villa finished fourth this past season in the the Premier League and clinched Champions League football for the first time since the 1982-83 season — and for the first time ever since the competition was rebranded from the European Cup.

The 52-year-old Spaniard, who arrived from Villarreal in October 2022, turned Villa around from 17th place to seventh in his first season in charge. He had another three years remaining on his existing contract.

“I am very happy to take this step and the responsibility of leading this club,” Emery said. “There’s a great chemistry in Aston Villa. And the element of the fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home. We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams.”

The former Arsenal and Sevilla manager led Villa to qualification for Europe last season, where they played in the third-tier Europa Conference League, losing in the semifinals to Olympiacos.

“We are building something special here at Aston Villa with Unai at its core and we are delighted that he has signed a new deal with the club until 2029,” club chairman Nassef Sawiris said.
