Betting split, but Canelo remains a heavy favorite

Canelo Alvarez is a heavy favorite over Gennadiy Golovkin and attracting big bets in their super middleweight championship bout Saturday in Las Vegas.

After opening as a -410 favorite, the price on Alvarez had grown to -500 Saturday at Caesars Sportsbook, where Golovkin was listed as a +400 underdog.

The betting has been relatively split, with 52% of the bets on Golovkin at Caesars Sportsbook. The larger wagers, though, have been on Alvarez.

The SuperBook at Westgate Las Vegas reported taking a $200,000 bet on Alvarez at -500 that would return a net $40,000. The SuperBook moved Alvarez to as much as a -650 favorite after taking the big bet.

Golovkin was a small favorite over Alvarez in their last meeting in 2018. Alvarez won in a majority decision. The two rivals fought to a draw in 2017.
