Bubble Watch 2022: Yes, Rutgers is a bubble team now

A little more than 48 hours after the staff here at Bubble Watch 2022 wrote a piece titled, “Rutgers is not a bubble team … yet,” Rutgers went out and proved, yes, it really is a bubble team.

The Scarlet Knights recorded an eight-point win at Wisconsin. The victory comes on the heels of wins at home over Michigan State and Ohio State.

This three-game win streak over ranked opponents has lifted Rutgers into contention for a tournament bid. Give credit to the Knights’ offense for triggering this run.

When Rutgers posted its best game of offense in 15 years at home against the Spartans, it seemed like a freak occurrence. But two wins later, it’s clear that this team is firing on all cylinders on that side of the ball.

In victories over MSU, the Buckeyes and Wisconsin, the Knights have made 60% of their shots inside the arc. Geo Baker, Ron Harper Jr. and Paul Mulcahy have all taken turns as prominent scorers during this run.

As a result, Rutgers is in contention for a tournament bid, and Illinois had better come ready to play in Piscataway on Wednesday night.

Here’s our current projection of the bubble:
