Chelsea: Positive Covid-19 cases force WSL derby v Tottenham to be postponed

Chelsea Women
Chelsea are unbeaten in the league this season, with six wins from eight games

Sunday’s Women’s Super League derby between Chelsea and Tottenham has been postponed because of coronavirus cases in the reigning champions’ squad.

A Chelsea statement said “a number of positive tests for Covid-19 were returned within the team set-up after the last round of testing”.

Those affected are self-isolating, and the rest of the squad will resume training in the new year.

No other Chelsea senior or junior squad has any positive cases.

Emma Hayes’ side are second in the WSL table, three points behind leaders Manchester United, with Tottenham in eighth place.

The next round of WSL games is scheduled for 9-10 January, with Chelsea away at Reading and Tottenham hosting Birmingham City.
