Five things to know about the Pelicans on Nov. 5, 2019

1)      The defensive end of the floor proved costly for New Orleans on Monday, as the Pelicans gave up at least 31 points in every quarter of a 135-125 loss in Brooklyn. The Pelicans went 0-2 on their road trip and will travel back to Louisiana this morning from New York City.

2)      Brandon Ingram was fantastic in his return to the lineup after he missed the second half of Saturday’s game, pouring in 40 points against the Nets, a career high. Watch postgame reaction from the forward.

3)      Watch postgame reaction from Alvin Gentry and Jrue Holiday.

4)      Taking a look at NBA power rankings from various websites entering Week 3, the Pelicans were highest in The Athletic’s list at No. 22, with that outlet writing, “Early in this season, even as the Pelicans struggle with their health once again, Ingram has been more than impressive.” NBA.com has New Orleans 23rd, while ESPN.com and SI.com both put the Pelicans at No. 24. Lastly, CBS ranks the club 27th, writing, “So far this team’s been hard to peg, but they seem better than their record. Jrue Holiday has struggled to start the year, but that likely won’t last too much longer given his track record.”

5)      New Orleans (1-6) will not practice today. The Pelicans now have three days to prepare for Friday’s home game vs. defending NBA champion Toronto. It will be a rematch from Oct. 22 opening night, when the Raptors prevailed in overtime at Scotiabank Arena.
