Who’s Playing

Washington @ Charlotte

Current Records: Washington 35-46; Charlotte 42-39

What to Know

A Southeast Division battle is on tap between the Charlotte Hornets and the Washington Wizards at 3:30 p.m. ET Sunday at Spectrum Center. If the contest is anything like Washington’s 124-121 victory from their previous meeting in January, the scorekeeper will be kept real busy.

Charlotte strolled past the Chicago Bulls with points to spare this past Friday, taking the matchup 133-117. Point guard LaMelo Ball (24 points) was the top scorer for the Hornets.

Meanwhile, Washington suffered a grim 114-92 defeat to the New York Knicks this past Friday. Washington was down 94-72 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. The top scorer for Washington was power forward Rui Hachimura (21 points).

The Wizards are now 35-46 while Charlotte sits at 42-39. Washington has been eliminated from playoff contention. Charlotte is still in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs, so these next one game are critical for them. They are expected to win this handily, but they should have beaten the Detroit Pistons Feb. 27 easily too and instead slipped up with a 127-126. In other words, don’t count Washington out just yet.
