What to Know
Get ready for a Missouri Valley battle as the Valparaiso Beacons and the Southern Illinois Salukis will face off at 5 p.m. ET Sunday at Banterra Center. Neither Valpo nor SIU could muster much offensive firepower in their last games, so look to the defense to decide this one.
This past Wednesday, the Beacons lost to the Bradley Braves at home by a decisive 71-56 margin. A silver lining for Valpo was the play of forward Ben Krikke, who had 18 points and five assists along with six boards.
Meanwhile, SIU was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap this past Thursday as they fell 44-39 to the Loyola Chicago Ramblers. Forward Marcus Domask wasn’t much of a difference maker for SIU; Domask played for 35 minutes with 4-for-18 shooting.
Valpo is expected to lose this next one by 6. The odds have been favorable for them against the spread on the road this season, even if it’s been tough sledding overall. They are 4-2 ATS in away games but only 9-10 all in all.
It was close but no cigar for the Beacons as they fell 63-60 to the Salukis in the teams’ previous meeting earlier this month. Can Valpo avenge their loss, or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll soon find out.
