Iowa House Unanimously Approves ‘Caitlin Clark Day’ to Celebrate Hawkeyes Star

Caitlin Clark’s name will forever be etched in NCAA basketball history, and now the state of Iowa is recognizing the college basketball star as well.

February 22 will officially be deemed “Caitlin Clark Day” across the state of Iowa, the Iowa House unanimously decided on Thursday. Clark sports No. 22 on her Hawkeyes jersey.

“Be it resolved by the House of Representatives that the House of Representatives honors Caitlin Clark as one of the greatest collegiate athletes of all time and a prime example of the pinnacle of Iowa sportsmanship and athleticism, and eagerly awaits her future accomplishments,” House Resolution 110 states. “And be it further resolved that the House of Representatives honors Hawkeye guard number 22, Caitlin Clark, by declaring February 22, 2024 as Caitlin Clark Day in the state of Iowa.”

Clark broke the NCAA Division I women’s basketball scoring record last Thursday vs. Michigan when she surpassed Kelsey Plum’s 3,527 points. Clark also set a career-high that night when she scored 49 points in the game, which is also an Iowa single-game record. The 22-year-old now has 3,569 career points to her name.

The resolution lists Clark’s many achievements during her career with the Hawkeyes, including her being the first NCAA player in history to have at least 3,000 points and 1,000 assists, winning two Big Ten titles and being a member the 2023 national runner-up Iowa team.

The No. 4 Hawkeyes will face No. 14 Indiana on Caitlin Clark Day.
