Who’s Playing

Minnesota @ Iowa

Current Records: Minnesota 11-8; Iowa 14-7

What to Know

A Big Ten battle is on tap between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Minnesota Golden Gophers at 4:31 p.m. ET Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa is expected to win again but is hoping to meet expectations this time.

The Hawkeyes were close but no cigar last week as they fell 90-86 to the Penn State Nittany Lions. Iowa got double-digit scores from four players: forward Keegan Murray (21), forward Patrick McCaffery (16), guard Connor McCaffery (12), and forward Filip Rebraca (11).

Meanwhile, the contest between Minnesota and the Purdue Boilermakers this past Wednesday was not a total blowout, but with Minnesota falling 88-73 at home, it was darn close to turning into one. Guard Payton Willis put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten dimes in addition to five boards.

This next matchup looks promising for Iowa, who are favored by a full 13 points. They have been good against the spread at home while the Golden Gophers have been good against the spread on the road, so something will have to give.

The losses put the Hawkeyes at 14-7 and Minnesota at 11-8. A pair of numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Iowa enters the game with only 8.9 turnovers per game on average, good for fourth best in college basketball. Less enviably, Minnesota is stumbling into the game with the 17th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 10.6 on average. So the cards are definitely stacked against the Golden Gophers.
