Klay Thompson Hosts 2nd Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament

Just weeks after the devastating destruction of Hurricane Dorian, Warriors guard Klay Thompson is supporting the island nation of the Bahamas by pledging 100% of the proceeds from the 2nd Annual Thompson Family Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament toward ongoing relief efforts. However the All-Star guard isn’t stopping there, further pledging that the Thompson Family Foundation will match all proceeds raised to amplify their donation.

Hurricane Dorian has been one of the strongest storms on record to hit the islands, displacing hundreds of individuals, families and their belongings. At the two-day event over September 19-20, 2019 at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, California, participants enjoyed live entertainment, an auction and time on the green for the tournament. Dubs rooks Jordan Poole and Alen Smailagić along with recently-signed free agents Glenn Robinson III and Willie Cauley-Stein came out to hit the links in support of their teammate and his cause.

Also in attendance was Warriors Assistant Coach Jarron Collins, who said of Thompson: “Klay is one of the nicest people, regardless of him being a professional athlete. He really is a really good guy, and Klay’s foundation benefits a great cause.”

Thompson has strong ties to the island nation with his father Mychel Thompson, a product of the Bahamas, becoming the first foreign-born No. 1 pick in the NBA draft in 1978. On the foundation’s website, Klay Thompson shared, “I am extremely saddened by the destruction of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. When my family and I started this foundation, a main goal was to support my father’s home country, a place that has many lasting memories for us. Now, they need our help more than ever. We will be focused on not only the short-term, but also the long-term relief, while working with local personnel to provide impactful support to the area and people in need.”

Klay Thompson and the Thompson Family Foundation are committed to providing support, assistance and relief to Bahamians effected by Hurricane Dorian, now and for years to come.
