LIV Golf Signs World No. 39 Adrian Meronk

Adrian Meronk, who earned his PGA Tour card for this season via the DP World Tour, is headed toward the LIV Golf League next week as it begins its 2023 season in Mexico.

Meronk, a four-time winner on the DP World Tour who was left off the victorious European Ryder Cup team, will join Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks team. He finished second to Rory McIlroy on Sunday at the Hero Dubai Classic—moving him to a career-high 39th in the world rankings—and was scheduled to play this week at the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour but withdrew before the first round Wednesday.

A source confirmed the signing to Sports Illustrated and it was first reported by The Times of London.

Another player who has flirted on and off with LIV Golf is England’s Tyrrell Hatton, who last weekend said he was staying with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour when speaking to reporters in Dubai.

But LIV Golf has made another run at the Ryder Cup player who won the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational and a source said a deal is close but not confirmed. He would join Jon Rahm’s team, a 13th team in the league which has yet to be officially named.

The PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, which backs LIV Golf, are still in negotiations to form an alliance that would bring the game back together.

But LIV Golf pushed to sign more players in advance of its season which begins on Feb. 2. Rahm was a blockbuster signing in early December.
