Porsche Race to Shenzhen Update: Bertens cements Top 5 place as Barty retains No.1 spot

Many of the leading lights in the Porsche Race to Shenzhen were not in action last week as the grass court season began in the wake of the French Open.

Players who had gone deep in Paris took a week off to gather their strength before the build up to Wimbledon and the third Grand Slam of the year in little over a fortnight.

Among those to rest her legs was Ashleigh Barty, the Australian who shot to first place in the Grid thanks to her maiden major success in France. She retains top spots as none of her closest rivals played either, with a 650-point lead over second-placed Petra Kvitova.

Indeed, there was no movement in the Top 8 save for Kiki Bertens picking up more points as the reached the final of s’Hertogenbosch after her untimely exit from the French Open, which came about in the second round as she was forced to retire due to illness.

There are no new faces in the Top 20, though Donna Vekic has jumped up from No.19 to 14 owing to her run to the final of the Nature Valley Open in Nottingham, where she was dramatically beaten over three sets by Caroline Garcia.
