Press, Rapinoe score as USWNT beats Brazil

Christen Press scored an early goal and Megan Rapinoe added a late score as the United States women’s national team beat Brazil 2-0 in a second-round match at the SheBelieves Cup.

Despite the overall lack of goals in Sunday’s match at Orlando’s Exploria Stadium, both sides provided an entertaining match that saw both sides with plenty of scoring opportunities.

Press gave the USWNT the lead in the 11th minute when she raced down the left flank, cut back just after crossing into the box with a perfect strike into the far post.

Brazil were able to exploit some runs and find spaces in the USWNT’s backline but they couldn’t finish their looks in hopes of an equalizer.

Rapinoe, who came on as a second-half substitute for Press, sealed the match in the 88th minute when she latched onto Lindsay Horan’s cross.

The U.S., who had beaten Canada 1-0 last week, next take on Argentina. Brazil, previous winners over their South American rivals, will square off with the Canadians.
