Recently retired NFL kicker Robbie Gould has been hired as the new head football coach at Rolling Meadows (Ill.) High School, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Gould kicked for 18 seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Chicago Bears. He announced in December that he was retiring from the game, although he did not play in the 2023 season.
Gould spent his first 11 pro seasons with the Bears, played one year for the New York Giants and then finished his career with six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He ranks 10th on the NFL’s all-time leaderboards for both points scored and field goal percentage.
Rolling Meadows is a town of 24,000 located northwest of Chicago. The Rolling Meadows Mustangs went 2–7 last football season and 4–5 the year before. The school’s most famous alumnus is NFL quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. It has also produced two NBA players: current Los Angeles Lakers player Max Christie and Aaron Williams, who played 14 seasons in the league from 1993 to 2008.
Gould isn’t the only NFL veteran to take a high school coaching job recently. Earlier this month, former quarterback Teddy Bridgewater accepted a role leading his alma mater, Miami Northwestern.
