Scotland: Six players can return to training for Luxembourg friendly

Scotland boss Clarke ‘wants difficult decisions & sleepless nights’

Six of the seven Scotland players who missed the draw against the Netherlands due to Covid-19 fears will return to training before Sunday’s meeting with Luxembourg, says Steve Clarke.

David Marshall, Stephen O’Donnell, Nathan Patterson, Grant Hanley, John McGinn and Che Adams did not travel after John Fleck’s positive test.

Fleck is self-isolating at the training camp in Alicante.

“We’ll take it a day at a time,” Clarke said after the 2-2 draw with the Dutch.

“The only one that won’t train is John Fleck. We’ll give him a couple days. He hasn’t returned any negative tests as of yet.”

The 29-year-old midfielder is asymptomatic but must record two negative tests before being allowed to come out of a 10-day quarantine period early, according to Spanish health protocols.

Scotland managed a creditable 2-2 draw with the Netherlands despite having a reduced 19-man squad to pick from.

Clarke’s side face Luxembourg on Sunday before beginning their Group D campaign eight days later against the Czech Republic at Hampden.
