UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris odds, predictions: MMA insider reveals surprising fight card picks

Walt Harris has 13 wins in his mixed martial arts career, and all of them have come by knockout. That could be bad news for his opponent on Saturday, Alistair Overeem, whose seven career UFC defeats have all come by stoppage. Both top-10 heavyweights like their chances when they meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris in Jacksonville, Fla. The UFC Fight Night card at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena is the promotion’s third event in a week since it returned to action following the coronavirus lockdown.

Although the No. 9-ranked Harris appears to have an edge against an opponent with a vulnerable chin, the No. 8-rated Overeem has several factors in his favor as well. Harris has struggled with grapplers in the past, and Overeem has one of the most diverse skill sets ever seen in the division. Harris is a -150 favorite (risk $150 to win $100), while Overeem is a +125 underdog (risk $100 to win $125) in the latest Overeem vs. Harris odds at William Hill. In the co-main event, Claudia Gadelha (-240) faces Angela Hill (+200) in a matchup of bantamweight prospects. Before locking in your selections for Fight Night: Harris vs. Overeem, check out what SportsLine MMA analyst Kyle Marley has to say

At UFC 249 last weekend, Marley told SportsLine members to back champion Henry Cejudo (-240) in his bantamweight title defense against former champ Dominick Cruz (+200). He was proven correct when Cejudo rattled Cruz with a knee to the face and finished him with ground-and-pound for a stoppage in the second round. And on Wednesday, Marley told SportsLine members to back underdog Glover Teixeira (+145) in the main event against Anthony Smith (-165). Teixeira dominated the action and earned a fifth-round stoppage. Anyone who has consistently followed Marley is way up.

Now, with Harris vs. Overeem fast approaching, Marley has carefully studied every matchup on the UFC Jacksonville card, identified the best value in the UFC odds and released his MMA picks for every fight. Those MMA predictions are only available here.

Overeem vs. Harris preview

The No. 8-ranked Overeem (45-18-1) is one of the most accomplished mixed martial artists in heavyweight history. The 39-year-old is a former kickboxing champion who also has held the Strikeforce and DREAM heavyweight crowns.

His resume includes victories over luminaries like Brock Lesnar, Fabricio Werdum, Mark Hunt, Frank Mir and Junior Dos Santos. But he was turned back in a title shot at UFC 203 in September 2016, suffering a first-round knockout to Stipe Miocic. The Dutch fighter has split his last six UFC bouts, with all of the defeats coming by stoppage.

Harris (13-7-1), ranked No. 9, started his UFC career with a 3-4 mark after losing his debut with the promotion in January 2014. But the 36-year-old Alabama native appears to be a late bloomer, as he has gone 3-0-1 in his last four bouts, with all of the wins coming by early stoppage.

Harris won both of his bouts in 2019, scoring knockouts of Sergey Spivak and Aleksei Oleinik. He received Performance of the Night bonuses for both showings. You can see Marley’s full Harris vs. Overeem prediction and picks here.

Top UFC Fight Night predictions for May 16

We’ll reveal one of Marley’s UFC Fight Night selections here: He is backing Krzysztof Jotko (-150) to get his hand raised against Eryk Anders (+125) in a matchup of explosive middleweights on the main card.

The winner has a chance to crack the rankings in arguably the deepest division in the UFC. To illustrate, icon Anderson Silva is ranked No. 15 in a division that sees little turnover among its top contenders.

Jotko (21-4) is a grappling specialist who made his UFC debut in December 2013. He was seen as a top contender after a five-fight win streak moved his record to 19-1. But he fell on hard times, enduring a three-bout losing streak starting in May 2017. But the Polish fighter rebounded with a pair of victories in 2019 and could return to the rankings with a third straight win.

Anders (13-4) is a former college football star at Alabama who has seen his speed and power translate well to the Octagon. He similarly saw his career trajectory slowed by a three-fight skid, with two of the losses coming by disputed decision. The 33-year-old appears to have improved his overall skill set and toppled submission specialist Gerald Meerschaert by decision in October.

Marley said he believes Jotko has more weapons at his disposal and should outlast Anders, provided the favorite can dodge his opponent’s power.
