UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira odds, best predictions: MMA insider reveals surprising picks

UFC light heavyweight Anthony Smith recently made headlines for his harrowing story of fighting off a violent intruder who broke into his home. He said battling an opponent in a cage on Wednesday night will resemble a return to normalcy. Smith gets that chance when he faces fellow contender Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira in Jacksonville, Fla.

Wednesday’s main UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira card at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. The third-ranked Smith warded off the intruder, who was apprehended by authorities. Now, he turns his attention to the No. 8-ranked Teixeira, who can climb into title contention with his fourth consecutive victory. Smith is a -175 favorite (risk $175 to win $100), while Teixeira is a +140 underdog in the latest Smith vs. Teixeira odds at William Hill. In the co-main event, Ovince Saint Preux (-135) takes on Ben Rothwell (+115) in a heavyweight bout. Before locking in any UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira picks, be sure to see the latest UFC predictions from SportsLine MMA expert Kyle Marley.

Marley won the first-ever “ToutMaster” UFC betting contest sponsored by MMAOddsBreaker and also appears regularly on multiple MMA betting and DFS shows. Over the past year, $100 bettors who have followed Marley’s picks are up nearly $19,000.

At UFC 248 in March, Marley told SportsLine members to expect middleweight champion Israel Adesanya (-275) to retain his title against Yoel Romero (+235) by unanimous decision. He reasoned that Adesanya would use his speed and agility to outpoint Romero. Marley was proven correct, as the titleholder kept the fight at range with leg kicks while dodging Romero’s explosive power. Anyone who has consistently followed Marley is way up.

Now, with UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. Smith fast approaching, Marley has carefully studied every matchup on the card, identified the best value in the UFC odds and released his MMA picks for every fight. He’s only sharing those selections right here

Smith vs. Teixeira preview

Smith, (33-14) 31, is known as a warrior in the Octagon who doesn’t appear to possess world-class skills but finds a way to win thanks to his resilience and will. He has been an underdog in several of his victories against top opponents.

He came out on the short end of a lopsided decision against Jones in their March 2019 title fight. But just three months later, he secured a submission over perennial contender Alexander Gustafsson as a +250 underdog. Smith has won four of his last five UFC bouts and received performance bonuses in four of his past six fights.

Teixeira, 40, is a submission specialist who has 10 finishes among his 12 UFC victories. He lost a title shot against Jones by decision in April 2014 but has seen a career resurgence over the past year.

The Brazilian went 3-0 in 2019, including two submission finishes. He is coming off a split-decision victory against Nikita Krylov in September. Marley is only giving out his Teixeira vs. Smith picks and MMA predictions here.

Top UFC Fight Night predictions for May 13

Marley is backing Ricky Simon (-160) to get a decision victory against Ray Borg (+140) in a matchup of bantamweight contenders on the main UFC Jacksonville card.

Although just 26, Borg (13-4) has been in the UFC since April 2014 and is a former title challenger in the flyweight division. He has struggled to make weight there and appears headed toward permanent residency at bantamweight. The Arizona native is coming off a decision win against Rogerio Bontorin in February.

Simon (15-3) was considered a fast-rising contender after winning his first two UFC bouts following an impressive start to his career in various promotions. But he has since lost two straight to veteran contenders, the latest a unanimous decision against Rob Font in December.

“Simon will land and stuff more takedowns because he is a bigger fighter,” Marley told SportsLine. “I also like Simon more on his feet, so I am going to lean with him as my pick.”
