Urban Meyer, Dan Mullen tell Tim Tebow he’s the greatest player of all-time on CBS Sports Connected

Watch Now: SEC Coaching Rankings: Coach On The Rise (2:29)

Tim Tebow cracked a smile and argued that it was an inappropriate question as CBS Sports’ Jamie Erdahl laid out a hypothetical scenario for Urban Meyer and Dan Mullen on a video call between the four. Of the quarterbacks that Meyer and Mullen coached over their years working together, which one would they pick if a game was on the line?

“That’s not fair to ask them,” Tebow interjected in the video conversation featured in a new new episode of CBS Sports Connected that will air Thursday at 7 p.m. ET on on CBS Sports Network. (Download the CBS Sports app to watch on your mobile device.)

“I’m on the call with them,” Tebow said. “That’s not fair to do to them.”

But Meyer and Mullen gave more than just lip service to their former Heisman Trophy-winning Florida quarterback. Both went so far as to suggest they believe Tebow is the greatest college football player of all-time.

“I think it’s hard to argue against Tim, really, if you look at what he’s accomplished as the best college football player in the history of the game,” Mullen said. “I don’t know if we’ll see anybody that good again, especially now with how college football is going and guys just as fast as they can trying to get to the next level.”

The question brought a specific moment to Meyer’s mind. He recalled the fourth quarter of Florida’s win over Oklahoma in the BCS Championship Game at the end of the 2008 season. Meyer remembered that the Gators led by three and had just secured an interception from safety Ahmad Black. He huddled up his offense with his arm around Tebow and told his players if they could control the clock, they would be national champions.

“At that moment, who else would you want?” Meyer said. “I’m very biased. I know he’s on the call. But he’s the best college football player of all-time.”

Meyer, of course, led Florida to two national championships in his six seasons with the program. Mullen, who served as his offensive coordinator, has done a tremendous job coaching the Gators over the last two seasons and has them in contention for the SEC in 2020. Tebow has spent his post-college career playing in the NFL and now minor league baseball while also serving as an analyst on the SEC Network.
