The Arizona State Sun Devils lost both of their matches to the #16 Southern California Trojans last season on scores of 64-73 and 71-89, so they’re hoping to turn the tables this season. ASU and the Trojans will face off in a Pac-12 battle at 11 p.m. ET Monday at Galen Center. USC will be strutting in after a win while the Sun Devils will be stumbling in from a defeat.
ASU was close but no cigar this past Saturday as they fell 79-76 to the Stanford Cardinal. ASU’s loss shouldn’t obscure the performances of forward Jalen Graham, who had 16 points in addition to six boards, and guard Marreon Jackson, who had 12 points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, USC strolled past the Utah Utes with points to spare this past Saturday, taking the contest 79-67. Among those leading the charge for the Trojans was guard Drew Peterson, who shot 5-for-5 from beyond the arc and finished with 23 points and seven rebounds. Peterson’s performance made up for a slower matchup against the Colorado Buffaloes this past Thursday. Peterson’s points were the most he has had all season.
The Sun Devils are the clear underdogs, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one. However, those who like betting on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 5-1-1 against the spread when expected to lose.
ASU is now 6-10 while the Trojans sit at 16-2. A pair of stats to keep an eye on: ASU has only been able to knock down 39.60% percent of their shots, which is the seventh lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. USC’s defense has more to brag about, as they they have been holding their opponents to a field goal percentage of 37%, which places them fifth in college basketball. So the cards are definitely stacked in their favor.
