Through 3 Quarters

The Utah Jazz were expected to win this one, and they are just one quarter away from fulfilling that expectation. After three quarters it’s looking more and more like their high-powered offense is just too much for the Oklahoma City Thunder as the Jazz lead 91-76. Utah took a hit to their ego this past Friday, so a win here would be a pleasant pick-me-up.

Utah has enjoyed the tag-team combination of small forward Bojan Bogdanovic and shooting guard Donovan Mitchell. The former has shot 8-for-11 from downtown and has recorded 26 points, while the latter has 22 points and seven assists. Bogdanovic had some trouble finding his footing against the New Orleans Pelicans, so this is a step in the right direction.

Both Utah and Oklahoma City suffered losses in their previous contests, but Utah is closer to making up for it. The Jazz are out front, but they can’t get complacent.

What to Know

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with the Utah Jazz and are hoping to record their first victory since Aug. 1 of 2020. Oklahoma City and Utah will face off in a Northwest Division battle at 7 p.m. ET Sunday at Paycom Center. Both teams were wiped off the court in their previous games and will be looking to bounce back in a big way.

It’s never fun to lose, and it’s even less fun to lose 138-101, which was the final score in Oklahoma City’s tilt against the Minnesota Timberwolves this past Friday. OKC was down 108-87 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Oklahoma City’s loss came about despite a quality game from shooting guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who had 33 points and seven assists along with five boards.

Meanwhile,’s it’s hard to picture a worse defeat than the 124-90 bruising that the Jazz suffered against the New Orleans Pelicans this past Friday. Utah was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 65-38. Shooting guard Donovan Mitchell wasn’t much of a difference maker for Utah; Mitchell finished with 14 points on 5-for-18 shooting in his 30 minutes on the court.

The losses put Oklahoma City at 20-43 and Utah at 39-23. A couple offensive stats to keep an eye on: OKC has only been able to knock down 42.20% percent of their shots, which is the lowest field goal percentage in the league. The Jazz’s offense has more to brag about, as they they enter the game with a 47.30% field goal percentage, good for fourth best in the league. We’ll see if their 5.10% advantage translates to a win.
