Dillian Whyte has said Tyson Fury’s push on him was “illegal” after the heavyweight world champion delivered a devastating uppercut to put an end to their bout at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday, Whyte (28-3, 19 KOs) said Fury broke rules by pushing him after a stunning uppercut in the sixth round of Saturday’s fight. The 34-year-old rose from the canvas but was not allowed to continue, meaning Fury retained his WBC heavyweight title.
“I was buzzed but obviously I was trying to regather my senses and he proper pushed me and I fell over and hit my head on the canvas, which is illegal,” Whyte said.
“This isn’t wrestling, this is boxing. I should have been allowed extra time to recover and then carried on fighting.
“I got caught, no doubt about it. I got caught by a good shot. I went for the left uppercut, he went for the right uppercut. He’s a bit taller than me, so obviously he landed his at range. I was hurt, I was trying to get my senses together and he full on, two-handed pushed me. It wasn’t like a one-armed thing.
“I should have had time to recover, time to go back to my corner, but Tyson Fury gets away with a lot of things.”
Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) said after the bout that he would likely retire, keeping a promise he made to his wife, Paris, although she admitted Fury could be enticed by a unification bout.
Anthony Joshua will try to reclaim his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight belt from Oleksandr Usyk when the pair face off in a rematch later this year.
