Former IBF featherweight champion Sarah Mahfoud (12-1, 3 KO) returned to the ring this past weekend in Denmark and won her first fight back since losing her belt to Amanda Serrano in September. She beat Lara Ochmann (9-2, 4 KO) by unanimous decision and maintained her No. 3 spot in the division.
In Canada, Alexas Kubicki (6-0) won a unanimous decision at flyweight over Maria Salinas (25-9-6, 7 KO), a multi-time world title challenger. The 19-year-old Canadian is going to be a fighter to watch over the next few years as she makes her ascent.
In Argentina, bantamweight contender Juliana Basualdo (10-2, 2 KO) beat Julieta Andrea Ines Cardozo (12-7, 1 KO) by unanimous decision.
This Friday, two vacant titles are on the line in Argentina featuring two of ESPN’s top fighters at junior flyweight. Evelin Bermudez will try to win back the IBF and WBO junior flyweight belts she lost last year in a majority decision to Yokasta Valle, who has since vacated the titles to campaign at strawweight. Bermudez (17-1-1, 6 KO), ranked No. 2 by ESPN in the division, will face Tania Enriquez, one of the more intriguing prospects in the division who’s taking a big a step up in competition.
Enriquez (20-0, 9 KO), ESPN’s No. 5 junior flyweight, has never fought outside Mexico and has never fought a 10-round fight as a professional. The winner of this fight would be an obvious challenger for Jessica Nery Plata, the WBC and WBA champion, in a matchup for the undisputed championship.
Welterweight Kirstie Bavington (7-2-2, 2 KO) faces Kandi Wyatt (10-4, 3 KO) in England, in a fight of two fighters heading in different directions. Bavington has won her last four fights while Wyatt has dropped her last three — including two title fight losses to Kali Reis in 2020 and Jessica McCaskill in 2021.
Also at welterweight, Lauren Price (2-0, 1 KO), the gold medalist in Tokyo in the last Olympics, takes on Naomi Mannes (6-1, 4 KO) on Saturday in Paris. Also on Saturday, 21-year-old featherweight prospect Sarah Liegmann (6-0, 1 KO) takes on Diana Kulinova (4-5, 2 KO) in Germany.
In Philadelphia, American Olympic bronze medalist Oshae Jones (1-0) finally gets her second pro fight, facing Dahianna Santana (40-14, 16 KO) in a 6-round welterweight bout. It’s Jones’ first fight since her debut in June.
Rankings will be updated every Tuesday. They’ll be based on recent bouts, head-to-head competition and the quality of opponent. As with almost everything, until fighters square off against one another, there is a layer of subjectivity to it. Fighters who haven’t fought in 18 months and don’t have a fight scheduled will be removed from the rankings until they fight again.
