The Detroit Pistons have made NBA history for all the wrong reasons.
Detroit lost 126–115 to the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday at Barclays Center for its 26th straight loss, tying the league record for most consecutive losses in a single season.
The 2010–11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013–14 Philadelphia 76ers also both lost 26 straight contests in a single season.
Detroit allowed Brooklyn to shoot 52.3% from the floor in the loss. The Nets also outscored the Pistons 62–42 in the paint and forced 14 turnovers.
The all-time record for a losing streak is 28 games, split between two seasons by the 2014–15 and 2015–16 Sixers. Philadelphia lost 10 straight games to finish the 2014–15 campaign and started 2015–16 with an 0–18 record.
The Pistons could own the single season record if they lose again to the Nets on Tuesday. After playing at home against Brooklyn on Tuesday, they visit the Boston Celtics on Thursday and host the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, meaning they could own the all-time losing streak record by next weekend.
