Who’s Playing

San Jose State @ Nevada

Current Records: San Jose State 7-17; Nevada 10-13

What to Know

The Nevada Wolf Pack are 7-1 against the San Jose State Spartans since February of 2016, and they’ll have a chance to extend that success Tuesday. Nevada and SJSU will face off in a Mountain West battle at 11 p.m. ET at Lawlor Events Center. Coming off of a win even when the odds were against them, the Wolf Pack have to be feeling especially confident now that the spread is in their favor.

While not quite a landslide, the contest between Nevada and the Utah State Aggies this past Friday was still a pretty decisive one as Nevada wrapped it up with an 85-72 win on the road. Nevada’s success was spearheaded by the efforts of guard Desmond Cambridge Jr., who shot 6-for-9 from downtown and finished with 27 points and nine rebounds, and guard Grant Sherfield, who had 24 points and five assists.

Meanwhile, the Spartans were expected to have a tough go of it this past Saturday, and, well, they did. Things couldn’t have gone much worse for them as they lost 74-52 to the Wyoming Cowboys. Guard Omari Moore had a pretty forgettable game, playing for 37 minutes but putting up just eight points on 3-for-12 shooting and four turnovers.

This next matchup looks promising for the Wolf Pack, who are favored by a full 14.5 points. They may be expected to win, but bettors beware: they are only 4-8 against the spread when favored.

Nevada’s victory brought them up to 10-13 while the Spartans’ loss pulled them down to 7-17. A pair of defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Nevada is stumbling into the game with the 35th most points allowed per game in college basketball, having given up 74.8 on average. SJSU has experienced some struggles of their own as they have allowed their opponents to shoot 46% from the floor on average, which is the 30th highest shooting percentage allowed in college basketball. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
