What to Know
The San Jose State Spartans haven’t won a matchup against the Utah State Aggies since Feb. 28 of 2018, but they’ll be looking to end the drought Friday. The Spartans and Utah State will face off in a Mountain West battle at 11 p.m. ET at Provident Credit Union Event Center. Neither SJSU nor Utah State could muster much offensive firepower in their last games, so look to the defense to decide this one.
SJSU was close but no cigar on Tuesday as they fell 58-54 to the Air Force Falcons. One thing holding SJSU back was the mediocre play of guard Omari Moore, who did not have his best game: he picked up four fouls and turned the ball over eight times en route to a 14-point finish.
Meanwhile, the Aggies received a tough blow on Saturday as they fell 66-55 to the Colorado State Rams. Utah State got double-digit scores from four players: guard RJ Eytle-Rock (14), guard Steven Ashworth (11), forward Brandon Horvath (11), and forward Justin Bean (10).
The losses put the Spartans at 8-21 and Utah State at 16-14. A couple stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: SJSU has allowed their opponents to shoot 46.60% from the floor on average, which is the 15th highest shooting percentage allowed in college basketball. Utah State’s offense has more to brag about, as they they come into the contest boasting the 23rd highest field goal percentage in college basketball at 47.90%. So the cards are definitely stacked in their favor.
